Remember? Isn’t Compatible with macOS 10.15 “Catalina”

MacOS 10.15 “Catalina” is about ready to drop and I wanted to make it clear that the current version of Remember? (V4.6.3) is a 32 bit app and will not run on it as only 64 bit apps are allowed. Adding 64 bit support will require essentially a complete rewrite and unfortunately I don’t know when that will happen.

It should in theory be possible to use virtual machine software such as Parallels or VMWare Fusion to run an older macOS version that is compatible with Remember? since I believe Apple does allow virtualized copies of macOS now, but I haven’t tested that yet.

I’m still amazed that after 30 years (!!) people are still using this goofy little app. Moving forward will definitely require a rewrite but sadly I can’t give any timeframe when that would happen.

I am one of these people… half my family history is in the file… (birthdays, things we have done, rememberdates a.s.o.) I am using it since 1990, got in contact at my work at ZEUS-DESY in Hamburg, Germany. Come on Dave, and come on folks, if there will be a future version, clearly it should be paid again! Till then, thanks for this programme, with that you are daily part of my life since : )

To those who “Remember” becoming addicted to Remember? and finding a new friend, aka Dave W., (in my case, 30 years ago) it looks like there is a choice to be made: upgrade to Catalina and find a new Remember”…or choose not to upgrade.

Like Sandra, a great deal of my family and other history is in the file…including many reminders to phone Dave to inquire about his mom, so it’s a quandary…but I’d like to ask those Remember? fans who have tested replacements and decided to abandon ship if they have found a suitable replacement that they would recommend and if so, is there a relatively easy way to transfer your Remember? data to its new home.

Please do the 64bit rewrite. I also am willing to pay whatever it takes. Also as I suggested, if you could do a companion iOS app that wind be the best and seriously kinit anyone else in the competition. PLEASE & thanks in Advance!!!

  4. Albert Frank says:

Amen to both of Terry’s pleas!

Instead of writing a complete iOS app for iPhone, perhaps you could do a simple iOS app which would at least display Remember? occasions…similar to the Claris Filemaker GO app, even if it could not create or modify occasions.

Or…perhaps you could do a piece of software that would mask Remember?’s true identity (32-bit) or add 32-bit capability to Catalina…or is that something Apple might do if they get a great deal of push-back from “older” users.

I think you can take some time on this Dave…because Apple is apparently having development and installation fits with Catalina!

    GO DSAVE!

    Dear Dave!

Yes, please, try to develop a new version of Remember?.

About 23 years ago I was looking for a nice little appointments / diary application for my friend – and Remember? was the best among all I installed.

I did some time later beta testing for the new version and for some of your assistive utilities.

At some point I was even playing with the idea that it would be meanngful to translate Remember? into my native language.

I would now translate the new version – and would pay for it, no questions asked.

    Sincerely!

I’m a professor at a university. Have you thought of reaching out for helpers to get Remember converted to a 64 bit app? Not necessarily students, but I’m continually running up against students who have the capability of making the transition on a voluntary basis who have relatively big egos and would look on it as a challenge.

I haven’t used Remember? for awhile but my wife runs her life by it and has for about 30 years. We’ll happily chip in for new licenses but you’ll need to get a new processor now that Kagi is gone. I liked them, too…. Right now I’m trying to get Remember? version 4.6.3 so we can run it on Mojave and not having much luck. The Remember? link just points to a mostly blank page. Thanks for remembering us!

  9. Dave says:

Hi Larry. You’re right, there’s a problem with he site links. I’ll fix them as soon as I can. In the meantime email me at dave@warker.com and I’ll send you the latest version.

i haven’t used remember for a while because i lacked compatibility at one point and was unable to find an upgrade. i loved that app and would love to get it again. in fact, if i can find it, i’ll download it now. i haven’t upgraded to catalina yet.

  11. Terry Herzog says:

Could we get an update on if Remember? Is ever going to be made Catalina ready? If not…is there a replacement that would be as good. PLEASE UPDATE REMEMBER?

  12. OGDEN PARKER says:

THANKS DAVE. I HAVE USED FOR YEARS. I WILL MISS REMEMBER VERY MUCH. I UP GRADED BY ACCIDENT AND LOST REMEMBER BECAUSE OF THE 64 BIT MESS. I HOPE YOU WILL HAVE TIME TO FIX THIS. I WILL BUY IT AGAIN. PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I HAVE DEPENDED ONIT FOR THE 30 YEARS. THANK YOU. OGDEN PARKER OGDENPARKER@CS.COM

Dave: I, like many others, have used and still use “Remember?” I even recall buying several copies of people in my department when I was working and I retired in 1994! Not many people can be blessed with such a loyal following. Why? Because “Remember?” just works and works beautifully. I respect your decision to not address a 64-bit update. But, if I could suggest that you establish a Signup List for folks who would like to be notified if and when you decide to update “Remember?” ?

    Best wishes,

    Ken Workman

  14. Bob Leedom says:

Oh, man, would I miss Remember! if it went away. That settles it. I’m not moving past Mojave until Dave can find the time to upgrade this great application! Dave, my wife and I will both buy new licenses. Hope you can make us happy!

  15. Richard Rice says:

Apple is suggesting that they will go under if I do not run CATALINA. I do not know how much longer I can hold out but Remember? still holds first position. Let me know when the 64 bit app is ready. Apple will be delighted.
